May iba’t-ibang rank ang celebration ng mga kapistahan: 

1. Solemnity - dakilang kapistahan

2. Feast - kapistahan

3. Obligatory Memorial [pagdiriwang ng santo na nakatala sa General Roman Calendar] 

4. Optional Memorial [hindi obligatory; pwede i-celebrate, pwede ding hindi] 

5. Commemoration [mga memorials sa loob ng privileged seasons of Lent/ Advent]

How do we celebrate Memorial of Saints during Lent? 

Sa panahon ng Kwaresma/ Adviento, lahat ng memorials of saints, ito man ay obligatory o optional, ay itinuturing na lamang bilang mga "commemorations". Sa lahat ng kaso, ang celebration ng isang “commemoration” ay optional kaya obligatory man ang isang memorial, ito at nagiging optional sa panahon ng Kwaresma/ Adviento

Narito ang sinasabi ng General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) no. 355:

a. On the weekdays of Advent from 17 December to 24 December, on days within the Octave of Christmas, and on the weekdays of Lent, except Ash Wednesday and during Holy Week, the Mass for the current liturgical day is to be used; but the Collect [Opening Prayer] may be taken from a memorial which happens to be listed in the General Calendar for that day [ibig sabihin obligatory memorial], except on Ash Wednesday and during Holy Week. On weekdays of the Easter Season, memorials of Saints may rightly be celebrated fully.

b. On the weekdays of Advent before 17 December, the weekdays of the Christmas Season from 2 January, and the weekdays of the Easter Season, it is possible to choose either the weekday Mass, or the Mass of the Saint, or the Mass of one of the Saints whose memorial is observed, or the Mass of any Saint listed in the Martyrology for that day.

Kaya kung i-commemorate, for example, ang memorial ni St. Cyril of Jerusalem (March 18) na laging pumapatak sa kwaresma, ang opening prayer lamang tungkol kay St. Cyril ang dinarasal sa misa. Ang ibang bahagi ay kukunin sa current weekday. Violet pa rin ang kulay ng vestment at hindi red or white.

Syempre, pwede ring hindi i-commemorate kasi optional ito. 

How do we celebrate Solemnity ot Feast during Lent? 

Kung ang isang pista ng saint na ipinagdiriwang bilang solemnity o feast ay pumatak sa kwaresma, for example, St. Joseph or St. Patrick in some countries, 

1. Pwedeng gamitin ang white or red vestments 

2. May Gloria 

3. May Credo (kung solemnity). 

4. Ang mga pagbasa ay kukuhanin sa proper of the feast.

Kapag Ash Wednesday, Holy Week at Easter Octave, lahat ng celebrations of saints ay hindi ginaganap.
